What does "Gold Vermeil" mean?
Gold vermeil (pronounced "ver-may") is 925 silver coated with a thick layer of real gold. According to the standard, the gold layer must be at least 2.5 microns thick and have a minimum gold content of 10 karats. For our jewellery, we use 18K gold plating for a particularly beautiful gold tone.
What is the difference compared to gold-plated jewellery?
The key difference lies in the base metal and layer thickness: regular gold-plated jewellery can have any metal base (e.g. brass or copper), and the gold layer is often extremely thin (under 0.5 microns). Gold vermeil, on the other hand, always has a sterling silver base and a noticeably thicker gold layer — making it more durable and skin-friendly.
How long does gold vermeil jewellery last?
With proper care, gold vermeil lasts several years. Its lifespan depends on how often the jewellery is worn and how it comes into contact with sweat, perfume, and chemicals. However, compared to lower cost gold-plated jewellery, it is noticeably more durable.
Is gold vermeil suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes — since the base is made of 925 sterling silver, gold vermeil is generally very skin-friendly and hypoallergenic.
How do I care for gold vermeil jewellery?
For a long lifespan, we recommend:
• Remove jewellery before exercising, showering, and swimming
• Avoid contact with perfume, sunscreen, and cleaning products
• Wipe with a soft, dry cloth
• Store separately in a jewellery pouch or box
• Do not use harsh cleaners while wearing it
