MATERIAL

14k Gold Filled

In this type of gold plating, the gold is mechanically bonded to a base metal using lots of heat and pressure. It is set by law, that around 5% of the weight of gold filled jewellery must be made of real gold. The gold plating is therefore around 50 to 100 times thicker than the gold layer on standard gold platings. This makes the jewellery more valuable and durable. Was bedeutet „Gold Filled“?

Gold Filled Schmuck besteht aus einem Basismetall (meist Schmuck-Messing), das unter Hitze und Druck mechanisch mit einer dicken Schicht aus echtem Gold verbunden wird. Laut Norm muss die Goldschicht mindestens 1/20 (5 %) des Gesamtgewichts ausmachen — bei einem 14K Gold Filled Schmuckstück bedeutet das also, dass mindestens 5 % des Gesamtgewichts aus echtem 14-karätigem Gold bestehen.

Was ist der Unterschied zu vergoldetem Schmuck?

Der entscheidende Unterschied zu galvanisch vergoldetem Schmuck liegt im Herstellungsprozess: Während bei klassischer Vergoldung Gold-Ionen elektrochemisch auf die Oberfläche aufgetragen werden (eine sehr dünne Schicht von oft unter 0,5 Mikron), wird bei Gold Filled eine massive Goldplatte mithilfe von Hitze und hohem Druck dauerhaft mit dem Basismetall verschmolzen. Dadurch entsteht eine feste, mechanische Verbindung statt einer reinen Oberflächenbeschichtung — die Goldschicht ist 50- bis 100-mal dicker als bei vergoldetem Schmuck. Diese Bauweise macht Gold Filled deutlich widerstandsfähiger gegen Abnutzung, Wasser und alltäglichen Gebrauch, ohne den hohen Preis von massivem Gold zu haben.

Wie lange hält Gold Filled Schmuck?

Bei richtiger Pflege kann Gold Filled Schmuck viele Jahre halten, da die dicke Goldschicht sehr widerstandsfähig gegen Verblassen und Abnutzung ist. Er ist eine großartige langfristige Alternative zu massivem Gold zu einem deutlich zugänglicheren Preis.

Ist Gold Filled für empfindliche Haut geeignet?

Ja — da die Goldschicht dick ist und das Basismetall (meist Messing) vollständig darunter versiegelt ist, wird Gold Filled Schmuck in der Regel sehr gut vertragen und eignet sich besonders gut für empfindliche Haut.

Wie pflege ich Gold Filled Schmuck?

Für eine lange Lebensdauer empfehlen wir:

  • Schmuck vor dem Sport, Duschen und Schwimmen ablegen
  • Kontakt mit Parfüm, Sonnencreme und Reinigungsmitteln vermeiden
  • Mit einem weichen, trockenen Tuch abwischen
  • Bei sichtbaren Verschmutzungen den Schmuck vorsichtig mit lauwarmem Wasser und einer milden, parfümfreien Seife reinigen — anschließend gründlich trocken tupfen
  • Separat in einem Schmuckbeutel oder -box aufbewahren
  • Keine aggressiven Reiniger beim Tragen verwenden

Gibt es Nachteile bei Gold Filled Schmuck?

Da die Goldschicht mechanisch mit dem Basismetall verschmolzen wird, eignet sich Gold Filled nicht für alle Fertigungstechniken — feine, filigrane Designs oder bestimmte Lötarbeiten sowie gegossene Teile sind dadurch eingeschränkter möglich als bei massivem Gold oder den klassisch galvanischen Vergoldungen.
